Harper's Bouncy Birthday Party

For Harper's 1st birthday, we rented a bouncy house and invited all of her little friends over to bounce. Harper loved the bouncy house and big sister loved it too.

Harper LOVED her first cupcake and quickly devoured the entire thing in just a few bites!

Her first cupcake
Yum!

One year Dr. appt.

Here are the latest stats:
Weight- 22 lbs. 3 oz (75%) (Claire was 22 lb. 10 oz.)
Height- 29 1/4 inches (50%) (Claire was 29 inches long)

Claire and Harper have had almost exactly the same stats along the way. Harper has been a bit lighter the whole way and a little longer but not by much.

Developments- She walks. She says light, Ma Ma, Da Da, Day-see (Daisy), Done (all done), Hi, Bye, La La, Ni Ni (night night) and ba ba (bottle) and she says Moo when she see her baby stuffed cow. She is a busy, curious girl who rolls with the punches like no other baby I've ever seen. On the other hand, you can't take your eyes off Harper for more than one second or she's hanging from the ceiling! She sleeps like a rock star. She sucks her thumb just like big sister. She loves her cow, just like big sister. She loves Daisy, just like big sister. She loves music and dancing, just like big sister. Do we see a trend?

Teething and it's no fun!

Recent Claire funnies...

Claire: "What's your name, Mommy?"
Mommy: "Camille Nix"
We proceed through Daddy, Harper and then she asks,
Claire: "What's Grandma's name?"
Mommy: "Charlane Lewis Cox"
(long pause)
Claire: "Mommy, you're silly. Grandma is not Tiana's alligator."
(reference to Louis the alligator in The Princess and the Frog)

We are driving in the car listening to Harper's favorite song, "Pretty Young Thing" by Michael Jackson.
She loves the "na na na na" in the song. So it's playing and Harper is clapping, loving it. Claire
Interrupts by saying "Mommy, I don't like this girl singing." I love Michael but that made me laugh. Poor
Michael.

Daddy took Claire to play golf. After an afternoon of fun on the golf course with Daddy, he asks her
"Claire, what's your favorite part of today?"
Claire: "Goldfish and lemonade." Enough said.

Claire tells Mommy, "scrunch up your face."
I oblige and scrunch up my face.
When I do, Claire takes her finger and counts my forehead wrinkles.
"one, two, three, four..."
Claire: "Mommy, you have five and Daddy has four."
Awesome. Thanks Claire.

She's one!!!

September 10, 2009 at 10:13 am, Harper Ann Nix arrived weighing a whopping 7 lb. 10 oz and measuring 20 inches long. She entered this world and we instantly fell in love. Harper is intense, but she is also very easy going. Harper is busy, but she is also the ultimate snuggle bug. Harper is a bundle of fun, but she is also super mellow. She is a true second child. She goes with the flow and tries desperately to keep up with big sister. She is our sweet sunshine girl.
Now, Harper is one. She walks. She talks. She eats big girl food. She sleeps through the night. She has a mouthful of teeth. She laughs. She gets frustrated. She looks to us for love and attention. She gives love back. Happy birthday to our sweet girl. You bless us every day.

Daddy's Caddy

Daddy is a good golfer. He likes to golf and he grew up on the golf course with his Dad. It is a special activity he always shares with his Dad. They play most times we get together. They play when we travel. Since the girls have been born, Daren doesn't play as much as he used to. But before they were born, he played every weekend. I know he misses it because it is something that he loves very much. It would be Daren's dream come true if one of his girls became a golfer with Daddy. He would love to have a buddy who loves to be on the course with him as much as he does. He tries really hard to get me to learn and I will someday. Don't worry, Daren, I will. For now, Daddy and Claire can enjoy their special time on the golf course together. Maybe Harper will join them someday too.

Claire the construction girl

We attended a birthday party this past weekend for two very sweet boys, Parker and Austin. Their Mommy is very creative and had a construction party with real live dirt, trucks, paint, hard hats, tool belts and more. Every detail transformed the backyard into a construction zone. Both girls had so much fun. Claire showed all those boys that girls like dirt too!!!

Claire with her gear on ready to build something

The pinata was even involved in the construction theme. See the dump truck pinata.
Daddy and Claire waited for the real live ice cream truck to arrive and bring all the kids ice cream treats. See sweet Harper in the background walking around.

Happy Birthday to Christi!

We celebrated Christi's 36th birthday this past weekend. The events started on Christi's real birthday. Mom, Christi and several of Christi's girl friends, and I met at Fonda and had a great time with appetizers and ritas. Catherine came in town to celebrate. It was busy and very fun. We swam, played outside, danced, read books, watched movies, ate a lot, and played some more. Below are some of my personal favorites of moments when no one was posing...

Reading Spiderman
Cousin hugs are the best!
Singing songs she made up all by herselfChilling in the grassThere's lots of cousin activity going on that Harper can't quite keep up with yet, but don't worry about her. Little Harper is a busy girl. When she's not busy getting into everything she can, she loves to snuggle!! She is a mover and a shaker, but will also surprise you with the sweetest snuggles you'll ever get. Just wait, though, Harper will be leading the pack of rug rats soon.

Go Horns!

UT football is here! La La hung out with the girls all day while we went to the game. It was a lot of fun. We went with good friends and the Horns won. Can't get much better! And, the girls got to spend the entire day with their La La. Heaven for all of us.

Music to our ears...

The very best sound in the entire world is that of listening to your children laugh. And let me tell you, Harper loves to laugh!!!

She's Dedicated

Harper's Dedication...
We have been members at Riverbend now for over a year. We have been attending for three or four years, off and on. As we became parents, it became extremely important to both of us that we found a church home we both enjoyed and loved, and that had a really strong children's program for when we decided to grow our family. Being a devout Episcopalian, I have to admit that Riverbend was a serious shift, but it is the one church that Daren and I kept going back to over and again. We feel welcome. We feel loved. We feel God's presence. Claire loves her Sunday school class and she loves going to the children's theater. She knows about Jesus and His love. She is learning about the stories of the Bible. And, I love it!!

And, I digressed...

The point is that the ceremony of an infant baptism that existed in the Episcopal church (the sacrament that Claire received) does not exist at Riverbend. At Riverbend, they dedicate infants with the idea being that we, as parents, dedicate our lives to raising Harper in a Christian home. Harper is welcomed as a family member of the church. To top off the wonderful service, I was so excited because one of my favorite church songs "Hallelujah" was performed and it felt like the perfect touch.

Brett and Kelly, 2 of Harper's godparents, (our sisters also being godparents), made a video of the event. Copy and paste the link in your browser and enjoy!

Help me, Jesus

Claire wasn't quite old enough for Vacation Bible School (next summer), but we went to watch Chris and Charlie's performance. Claire picked up quickly to the song and had a big performance from the audience. We got the BEST laugh!! She is so silly!

Keeping up with Harper

I have tried so hard since Harper has been born to document her life in words and in pictures as well as I have documented Claire's. It just isn't as easy to keep up with it all with two kids. I think I've done a pretty good job, but the truth is that baby #2 just isn't nearly as photographed as #1 was. But to my defense, Claire will pose, sit still and smile for the camera. With Harper, I have to catch her in action or it isn't going to happen.

Harper loves to be outside. She especially loves to swing.I can't leave anything lying around, even for two seconds, or this sweet little girl has it in her hands. She loves her big sister and she tries to keep up with Miss Claire bear at all times. She is always on the move!! Harper is the happiest, smiliest, busiest, sweetest little baby. We are blessed to have two of the best little girls around in our lives. I love being their Mommy!
